Why do we need to assess our students?
Isn't one huge end-of-year test enough? Must we spend time and effort throughout the whole year to assess, too?
Why?
- Because assessments should drive our instruction. Think of assessments as our road map for what we teach our students.
- Because assessments show us where adjustments need to be made in our instruction in order for literacy needs to be met.
- Because we can't get to where we are going without examining where we have been and where we are now.
Think of assessments as a road map. Each student may have a different route to get to the same destination. Assessments show us the way!
